My name is Gabriela Curry. It is my wish to make you feel better, physically by alleviating your muscular skeletal pain with Massage, soothing your mind with Energy work, and by restoring the health of your complexion with Skin Care. At the age of four I was pretending to be Superman. I know Superman is a man! Back in the early 70’s I didn’t have Wonder Women or the Bionic Woman to emulate. I might have chosen a riskier daredevil feat than jumping off the refrigerator. I got a memorable scolding for landing on my tush. That day haunts my body with pain as I broke my coccyx bone which caused nerve damage to my legs. The nuisance of my invisible disability has lead me to seek wholistic remedies. As your Holistic Health Practitioner I will use the lessons of my pain that I endure as my devotion to continual education to soothe your afflictions. I am a keen listener and I will always allow your pain to be my guide. I will hold my oath to do no harm.
“Life is 10% what happens to me and 90% of how I react to it.” - Charles Swindoll
As a teenager I had severe cystic acne. It caused me to lose my self confidence. My parents felt helpless as they witnessed how acne was stigmatizing my social life. I hated taking pictures because I embarrassed of my skin. My hairstyle choices revolved around my acne. Fortunately the 80’s had some creative haircuts! I had asymmetrical cuts to hide the side of my face that had the most zits, the graduated bob to cover my scarred cheeks, or the pixie cut to get my hair off my face. I tried everything and anything to find a cure. Strangers would stop me in the mall and give me “tried and true home remedies.” My family doctor recommended the birth control to control my breakouts. The Dermatologist prescribed sun lamps, retinol-A, and antibiotics and Accutane. I had no positive results with drug store products. The glamorous sales ladies at the department stores were familiar with which products to recommend for wrinkles but had no advice for acne. In my search for self care I came upon a Dermalogica Esthetician. I had monthly facials and she taught me a skincare regime. Thankfully to her, and my distressed parents for affording me with esthetic care, I often receive complements on my skin and my colleagues are shocked to hear I once had stage 4 acne. Living in Southern California I am well acquainted with side effects of sun exposure. Now that I am in my fifties I have other skin care concerns which now revolve around loss of elasticity. As your Esthetician I will recommend products to nourish, restore, and protect your skin. I promise to hold your best interest to heart. My journey as a Massage Therapist began when I became a Massage Technician on November 3rd 1996 at Somatherapy. Shorty after I graduated from the United Artist Beauty College on October 10, 1997 as a Cosmetologist. My mother owned a beauty salon in Desert Hot Springs. With my new credentials I wanted to establish it as a Day Spa. Unfortunately, the city’s ordinances deemed massage therapy as parlor work. So I devoted my Cosmetology skills towards Esthetics and Manicuring. Then I was hired on Sept. 28, 1998 to work at Spa La Quinta a luxury destination resort. During the nearly 23 years that I worked there I was honored to give services to Tracy Austin, Tonino Baliardo (founder & lead guitarist of The Gypsy Kings), Haile Barry, Attorney Cherrie Booth ( wife of England’s Prime Minister Tony Blair), Tom Brokaw, Governor Jeb Bush, First Lady Columba Bush, Texas Governor George W. Bush, Sean Hayes, Millie Corretjer De La Hoya, Former United States Ambassador of the United Nation John and Mary Danforth, Gena Davis, Shannon Doherty, Sandra Giles, Julie Healy, Nic Harcourt, Jonah Hill, Robert Harvey, Jonathan Ingram (#66 Center for the Miami Dolphins), Phil Jackson (Coach of the LA Lakers), Michael Keaton, Val Kilmer, Jessica Lange, Mark Lawrence, Dolph Lungren, Alley Mills, Billy Morrison (Base player of The Cult), Bill Murray, Martina Navratilova, Michelle Pfeiffer, Chief of Le Bernadine Didier-Eric Ripert, Rebecca Romijn, Mimi Rogers, Marc Roskin, Jennifer Schefft (The 1st Bachelorette), Howard Schultz (Chairman of Starbucks), Kathy Smith, Patricia Southal, Aaron Shure, Tiffany Amber Thiessen, Lauren Tona, Matt Wellig (#71 Carolina Panthers), George Herbert Bush Walker IV, Ron White, and Rene Zellweger. On June 26th, 2006 I received my certificate from Somatherapy as a Holistic Health Practitioner. In 2001, I given the position as the Aromatherapy and Spa Services Instructor at Somatherapy. My Stint as an educator was halted because of the Great Recession of 2009. I have been an Independent Contractor for a local charity: ACT for Multiple Sclerosis since 2005. Due to the economic downturn in 2009 the program was suspended due to lack of donations. I volunteered massage services to ACTforMS clients so that their muscles would not atrophy. I was reinstated with ACTforMS as an Independent Contractor when they began receiving grants and donations in 2011. I am still actively serving as a Medical Massage Therapist for ACTforMS. On February 9th, 2012 I was hired as a Wholistic Massage Therapist at the Eisenhower George and Julia Argyros Wellness Institute. I was honored to work in unison for 4 years with the Western based Medical Physicians of Eisenhower Medical Hospital. While also contributing to the directives of Alternative Wellness Doctors of Acupuncture and Chiropractic to treat patients with preventative care. In addition to working with a team of 30 Doctors my colleagues were Yoga instructors, Tai Chi instructors, Chi Gong instructors, and weight management coaches. Working at the EWI was my dream job. I finally attained my supreme goal of opening a brick and mortar business in my beloved community. In April of 2016 I rented a suite at Phenix Salon Studios. In July of 2016 my true vision of ultimate success came to fruition when my long time friends, Kim and Amy Hetherington became my business associates at our present location at the Old Town Artisan Studios, Inc. office park where we became the Body Work and Esthetics Center. In 2004, Amy, Kim, and I, had a desire to improve the Spa Industry. We made plans to improve our future by investing in ourselves. I am so fortunate to be surrounded by peers who love what they do best and continually hone their skills to better serve their clients. I am very quite proud of the wellness that I offer and the team we have created. Now our team is 7 strong!

Deep Tissue and/or Medical massage techniques are use to get to the cause of pain and alleviating it. Deep work is not the same as deep pressure, to target sore spots communication is key, this work is not about suffering in silence or suffering at all. Sometimes muscles get strained, over-tightened, over-lengthened or stuck together. Sometimes parts of the muscle get ischemic, creating tender spots or trigger points (which refer pain to other areas) that may need to be worked out and loosened.
